For Voltron, the acting elements are coming together. Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the live-action film for Amazon MGM Studios, which is based on the mecha anime. Rita Ora, John Kim, and Sterling K. Brown have joined the cast. The ensemble piece, which begins in Australia in December, stars the three of them together with Henry Cavill and relative newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye.
The Japanese science fiction manga Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV served as the inspiration for Voltron. The series ran in the middle of the 1980s under the title Voltron: Defender of the Universe after World Events modified and rebranded it as a syndicated program. The Robot Lions, a battalion of five young pilots, are vehicles that combine to construct Voltron, a mega-robot, according to the idea.
“I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron,” Thurber said in a video message to Voltron fans during VoltCon, which was held in Indianapolis in October, even though the feature’s plot details are still under wraps. We will be presenting a completely new generation of pilots in this movie. Voltron has been reimagined for the live-action world, but we will remain faithful to those iconic elements that you and I both adore. Thurber and Ellen Shanman co-wrote the script. David Hoberman of Thurber and Hobie Films, Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, and Todd Lieberman through Hidden Pictures are producing.
