Chris Evans will return to the MCU in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

The Avengers may finally be getting back together on the big screen. It was recently announced that Chris Evans, who portrayed Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the first three installments of the Infinity Saga to “Avengers: Endgame,” will be joining Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday.”

The Wrap broke the news, claiming that although the actor has committed to the huge crossover project from Marvel Studios, no specifics regarding his involvement have been disclosed. He might return in a different character, similar to what Downey Jr. is doing in the same movie, given that the multi-film project is now dealing with parallel realities, multiverses, and variant forms of its numerous heroes and villains. The actor even has some experience with this, having reprised Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, from Fox’s early 2000 “Fantastic Four” duology in a brief appearance in 2024’s “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

As a result, “Avengers: Doomsday” already features the return of two stars that fans adore, together with the cherished Russo Brothers leading the film. The fact that Evans is making a comeback may be enough to get fans to flock back to theaters when the film opens on May 1, 2026, regardless of whether this signals the return of Steve Rogers’ Captain America.

The return of Captain America is becoming a reality.

Evans has consistently shown his willingness to go back into the MCU; last year, he even declared that he would “never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience.” However, I also hold it in high regard. It is something of which I am really proud. As I mentioned, there are moments when I find it hard to believe anything ever happened. Additionally, if it seemed like a money grab, didn’t meet my expectations, or simply didn’t seem related to the original item, I wouldn’t want the black eye.

With all of their experiments and attempts to surpass their prior efforts, Marvel Studios has been having trouble at the box office ever since Evans and Downey Jr. left. Is this the opportunity they’ve been seeking to resume their pace?
