With the 69-year-old movie star assuming a new role in life, Denzel Washington was granted his minister’s license.
Archbishop Christopher Bryant performed Washington’s baptism on Saturday at the Kelly Temple in New York City.
“I’m finally here, even though it took a while…Bryant claims that Washington remarked, “If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you.” “The sky literally is the limit.”
Bryant shared photos of the moment Washington gave his life to Christ in a Facebook post.
“We celebrate the addition of Minister Denzel Washington into the clergy, having received his minister’s license in the Church of God in Christ today, in a truly uplifting moment,” the post read.
“He is dressed that way because, in the same service, he received water baptism,” said Bryant. “The Historic Kelly Temple in New York City, which is near and dear to his heart, served as the venue for both the licensing and the baptism. After visiting another church with actor Robert Townsend in the 1980s, Denzel Washington, who attended this church as a child, attested to being filled with the Holy Spirit.
