Although Daredevil: Born Again, a Marvel Disney+ series, has had a turbulent journey to the big screen, Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum is now so sure of the show that he thinks it will run for “multiple seasons.” Winderbaum explains that the actors’ and writers’ strikes allowed them to “reassess” what they had after a lot of backstage drama, which resulted in the upcoming first season being trimmed from 18 episodes to nine. In the end, they decided that the show would be at its “best” with fewer episodes.
Winderbaum provided some intriguing details about their plans for Daredevil in an interview on the YouTube channel @BrandonDavisBD. He even likened the Marvel series to the hugely successful HBO series Game of Thrones.
“It just feels like it is a great kind of first season, you know, to tee up this world that continues on into season two and hopefully Beyond. I think it’s a series that can run for multiple seasons. I think the version of New York that Dario’s come up with is extremely intricate it almost feels like a palace intrigue show. I’ve compared it to Game of Thrones in some recent interviews and I think that’s true, and when I say that it means that there’s just multiple factions vying for power in really complex ways.”
It Gonna Be Violent Like The Original Series
Many people are curious if Daredevil: Born Again will carry on the violent retaliation that is depicted on Netflix because it was revealed as a Disney+ release. Another question is if characters like The Punisher and Daredevil will be toned down and made more suitable for the House of Mouse. Born Again is “one of the more violent things we’ve put on screen,” according to Winderbaum, so it appears that people who are looking for violence have nothing to fear.
“I will say this like I get asked a lot about, like, ‘well is it gonna be violent? Is it gonna be intense like the original series? Is there going to be, like, you know, is it a real TV-MA show?’ And the answer is ‘yes.’ But it, you know, it all comes at a cost. There’s really nothing extraneous about it. It is one of the more violent things we’ve put on screen, but it’s in service of kind of a greater tragedy that is really compelling.”
The comic book arc of “Mayor Fisk,” in which The Kingpin becomes the newly elected mayor of New York, will serve as the basis for Daredevil: Born Again. In the story, Matt Murdock works for Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime, who uses his skill at deceitful philanthropy and spin to fight off vigilantes in costume.
