There is only one thing that will signal the conclusion of the American Christmas season: the release of “Squid Game” season 2. The Netflix series, which was created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and became the streaming giant’s most popular series ever, inspired a reality TV competition show that totally misses the point of the original series and an upcoming American sister series from David Fincher, which is likely to be fantastic. Netflix is ensuring that “Squid Game” will conclude without another significant hiatus between seasons, despite the fact that it took Dong-hyuk more than ten years to get the show in front of people worldwide.
Aside from Emmy Award winner Lee Jung-jae as the games’ winner, Seong Gi-hu and Lee Byung-hun as the games’ Front Man, “Train to Busan” star Gong Yoo as the Recruiter, and Wi Ha-jun as Detective Hwang Jun-ho, who was left for dead by his brother, the masked leader of the games, season 2 of the show will regrettably not see many returning faces (RIP), given that the premise of the show centers on hundreds of people dying in an effort to ensure financial stability.
Gi-hun’s survival of the games is hardly cause for celebration because it means that 455 people lost their lives to bring him there. In addition, he lost his mother during the games, and his ex-wife and daughter are relocating to the US. He is now on a sinister quest to terminate the games and the group that permanently altered his life while dealing with his survivor’s guilt. We suspect that he is already aware that there is no such thing as a “winner” in the Squid Game.
“Squid Game” season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 26, 2024.
