Venom: The Last Dance Records Surprising Opening Weekend Box Office Results

S.J. Clarkson’s Madame Web and Daniel Espinosa’s Morbius were two box office busts for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, but the Venom films have been the franchise’s mainstays. Both Andy Serkis’ Venom: The There Be Carnage and Ruben Fleischer’s Venom were huge hits when they came out in theaters in 2018 and 2021, respectively, but the Dakota Johnson and Jared Leto-led films barely made their budgets back globally.

As a result, going into its opening weekend, there were high expectations for Kelly Marcel’s Venom: The Last Dance, the trilogy’s conclusion.

As it happens, those anticipations were not fulfilled. Despite taking the top spot from Parker Finn’s Smile 2, the new superhero film’s domestic ticket sales are disappointing when compared to the standard set by its predecessors, according to preliminary figures.

Compared to the previous two films, Venom: The Last Dance’s opening weekend ticket sales are significantly lower.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage didn’t get a good review when it came out in theaters in 2021, but people who were watching box office trends in the long run were relieved. The Venom sequel gave the industry a huge boost at a time when it was still recovering from theater closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It not only made a lot of money in its first weekend ($90 million), but it also outperformed the original film (which made $80.3 million in its first three days).
